| In the 60's, she had 4 plays go thru Boston, The Molly Brown tour, Rattle of a Simple Man, High Spirits, and Private Lives(The last 3 pre- Bway). Molly was Irish, and the others were characters English. Miss Grimes was from Chestnut Hill(Home of Boston College) and she was always greeted as a hometown girl. There are beaucoup d'accents in Massachussetts.Friends of mine from the Berkshires don't have what I would call a Boston accent. The Wahlbergs of Dorchester(Bunker Hill) have a differen accent the folks from the Merrimac Valley(Lowell, Lawrence)David Hyde Pierce in CURTAINS had a Dorchester accent, 'cause his character was from that' town(the TOWN film). Henry Higgins could have had a field day in Beantown..Back to your point, if you listen to Miss Grimes pre-Molly, (The Littlest Revue, the Cradle Will rock), she doesn't sound all that posh, But I never met her so it's possible all her accents were character driven. |
