IN FACT...Tammy Grimes was from Lynn, Mass, a very working class town north of Boston...also Alex Newell's place of birth. Tammy's father managed The Brookline Country Club, so, she probably moved upwards to Chestnut Hill in her youth, but she was not of the upper class...not that there's anything wrong with that.
I once sat next to Miss Grimes during a panel discussion about starting a National Theatre in Boston. The Mayor of Boston was speaking, and Miss Grimes commented about the Mayor's "Boston accent".
She was a glorious creature, self invented, and so unique. My kind of people.
