Broadway Grosses 5/13 — 'Harry Potter' & 'Mean Girls' looking even more like the big open-run hits this season

  • Last week, which ended May 13, Broadway grosses totaled $38,621,286 for 36 shows.

    In the prior week, which ended May 6, Broadway grosses totaled $36,994,030 for the same 36 shows.

    In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $33,603,538 for 36 shows.





  • Broadway enjoyed a good week. Attendance was up over 300,000 and most shows posted n increase from the prior week.

    — Of the new shows this season that have open-ended commercial runs, the two with the best prospects for profitability and long runs are Harry Patter and the Cursed Child and Mean Girls. Their numbers are great. (See tables in link.)

    — The Saturday evening preview of The Boys in the Band was cancelled last week after an injury at the matinee to Jim Parsons. Still, the sold-out remaining seven performances of the week exceeded potential gross (105%) at an average ticket price of $162.

    — The Lion King played seven performances instead of the usual eight.




  • Lobby Hero closed at The Hayes Theatre after its limited engagement of 30 previews and 56 regular performances. The not-for-profit production, the first Broadway presentation by the Second Stage Theater company, had a cumulative gross of $4,795,126 and filled 96% of the seats, paid and comped, on average.
