| Composer Marc Shaiman (on FaceBook) says: "We are having a great time creating a brand new musical of "SOME LIKE IT HOT" ... I can't share any info about how we all are approaching it, but if we do what we intend to, I believe it will earn it's right to exist as the second - an alternate, if you will - musical of this film to be written. No one else can ever be Jule Styne & Bob Merrill, so we are heading in different (and exciting!) directions. And I can't wait for you all to see our version of this classic story." * I remember once hearing, around the time 'SUGAR' first opened on Broadway (1972, and I was working at AFTER DARK Magazine at the time, so I was privy to a lotta gossip in those days), that it had been David Merrick's idea to reassemble the 'HELLO, DOLLY!' team of Michael Stewart, Jerry Herman and Gower Champion to write the new 'SOME LIKE IT HOT' musical. And work actually began on it, with this team rethinking the musical. Sugar was now the bandleader in their version!? But then there were apparently many disagreements along the way as to where the show was heading, and Merrick really wanted them to stick closer to the original screenplay's story. So Stewart and Herman soon departed (were fired?), and others (Peter Stone, Jule Styne, Bob Merrill) were brought in to replace them. I wonder if any of that's true. I wonder if this new version is truly being rethought in "different directions." Hmmm. |

| What is the gossip on her? As a teenage bookstore clerk I had a run in with her that was quite similar to the one Mary Tyler Moore must have had that made her quit Simon's show. Sugar-y was not exactly a way I would describe her. | |

| That's classy of Shaiman to acknowledge Styne and Merrill's ''Sugar,'' especially since the press release made no mention of it. Shaiman and Wittman certainly know about writing for a Marilyn Monroe-type, having writing ''Bombshell'' for NBC's ''Smash.'' |

| Thanks for sharing. Just a few things you might fix: ''Some Like It Hot'' earned 6 Oscar nominations, and that's JULE Styne and J. PIERREPONT Finch. | |

| excellent article on my favorite movie... Just thinking that Hugh Jackman might be a bit old now, but at one time I think he'd've made a great Josephine (and from its premiere in 1959 to June 2000 is more 40 years than 50 years...) |

| And, now that you mention it, I DO remember something about it being reset in the big band era. Thanks! |
