| Yes, he and Joe Mantello appeared before the curtain went up to explain (charmingly) that he would be wearing a large black boot and carrying a cane. They had rehearsed with the company that afternoon to try and simplify some of his movement (there is a very steep staircase to navigate and handling of many drinks and phones). Of course, the audience was very much on his side and glad to see him performing. He incorporated his cane in a number of places throughout the evening and added an extra "I'm coming, I'm coming" when the phone was ringing downstairs. He gave a splendid performance, as did the entire company. |
