| If you're "woke," you definitely don't use the word "woke." Really? All of this in one musical? Will they be selling jagged little pills in the lobby? "The show tackles hot-button issues like opiate addiction, gender identity and sexual assault, as well as more quietly urgent ones like transracial adoption, marital bed death and image-consciousness..." |

| It is as ambitious (yay!) and bloated (boo!) as this thread suspects - perhaps even moreso. I caught it early in its 2-and-a-half-month run at ART and it needed focus, trimming, and something to actually be about. This would be a success as a concept album but is currently in need of major improvement if it's going to be a success as a piece of theatre. If this has Broadway plans locked down, as I suspect it does, this will be another original musical miss (mess?) from Paulus. | |

| I absolutely love this album but I just fear seeing a musical about these topics and putting the songs in that context will just ruin it for me. Keep in mind that is NOT a slam about caring about those issues, just what the album has meant for me since oh, 1995. |
