I tend to think it is. The examples that come immediately to my mind are Glenn Close in Sunset and many-a-celebrity Sally Bowles in the Cabaret revival(s)--not so much when it degenerated into stunt casting (Debbie Gibson), but more when they were still casting actresses known for their dramatic chops like Natasha Richardson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Mary McCormack. |
