Ken Bloom, Chris Johnson and Dennis Fill are producing a forthcoming documentary on the greatest triple-threat in Broadway history, actor/singer/dancer Gwen Verdon. Currently in the funding stage, the documentary should premiere next year.

"The theatre is the most ephemeral of all the lively arts. Every show's life only exists during its performances. Theatre stars of the past often do not leave a lasting legacy. There may be sound recordings and the occasional biography or autobiography, but mostly when the show closes and the participants die there's little left with which to remember the show.

The multi-talented dancer, singer, actor Gwen Verdon is a perfect example of the evanescent quality of Broadway performers' legacies. Damn Yankees was the only film in which she recreated a Broadway performance. Her other film appearances were mainly made after her dancing years were behind her. Her only television appearances were mainly on variety shows that are no longer able to be viewed by the general public. Apart from her cast recordings she only made one album. And her stage career began over sixty years ago.

With our documentary Merely Marvelous: The Dancing Genius of Gwen Verdon, we are seeking to preserve the legacy of Broadway's greatest dancing talent; a woman who also excelled as an actor, performer, and singer. Through rare footage of every one of Gwen's Broadway appearances, from Can-Can to Chicago, and interviews with her friends, family, and Broadway family, Merely Marvelous is a salute to a great performer and great person. We hope this documentary will keep the memory and talents of Gwen Verdon alive for future generations."
