I was put in an almost identical situation by what I can only assume was the same man. Reading this, I marveled at the similarities in the detail -- the location (I lived on 47th and 2nd at the time), the reference to sexuality ("I'm gay, so you can trust me"), and the guy trying to pass himself off as a costume designer.

In my case, he said he worked in the costume shop of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and needed money to get a cab to the Marquis. I replied: "That show has been closed for months." When he realized I wasn't an easy mark, he literally just walked away without another word. I guess being a theater nerd (and not someone with an overly trusting nature) saved me from getting rolled. :-)
