I actually think it's just as far-fetched that he left the show because his dad's house burned down a month ago. From what some social media posts said, his dad didn't have insurance - I don't think giving up the paycheck of a lead in a commercial broadway show is the immediate solution to a situation like that.
And yes, there are other roles... but leads in broadway shows are not very common roles to get, even for a Tony winner... Kazee being a prime example - in the last 15 years he's had a lead in Spamalot (replacement), 110 in the Shade and Once... that's not much, and he hasn't had a huge TV and film career yet (weirdly). Unless he actually for a bigger career opportunity - I would say leaving this show is a pretty big misstep... unless his father is ill or really just needs his son with him, and he can't be in NYC to be with his son.
Who knows - the point is, it's not far-fetched. |
