Gere is a leading man who rarely gets the accolades and awards he deserves.
I can think of at least 4 of his female co-stars - Julia Roberts in ''Pretty Woman,'' Debra Winger in ''An Officer and a Gentleman,'' Renee Zellweger in ''Chicago'' and Diane Lane in ''Unfaithful'' - who each got Oscar nominations for playing opposite him. Yet Gere himself was not nominated.
Even when Gere won the Golden Globe and got a SAG nomination for playing Billy Flynn in ''Chicago,'' the Oscars still passed him over. |
