| Caught it on 4/01/18 at the Oriental Theatre. It was enjoyable. Barks was drop dead gorgeous and was given some stunning costumes. Ironically, I thought Kazee was one of the best things about the show. He was confident, assured, smooth, and charismatic -- I thought he and Barks had excellent chemistry. If the goal of the production was to present key scenes from the movie on stage and add some songs, then it succeeded. I found the show's book to be better than the score. I thought 3 of the songs/musical numbers were memorable: "On a Night Like Tonight", "The Opera", and "You and I". The rest were serviceable -- pleasant, easy to take, but not distinguished. In general tickets were heavily discounted -- I paid $49 for an excellent orchestra level seat. |
