I would've liked to have seen Gere in ''Grease'' (which he did in N.Y. and London) and ''Bent,'' which earned him a Theatre World Award.

Looking him up on IBDB, I didn't know he had two other lesser-known, short-lived shows: ''Habeas Corpus'' (1975) and ''Soon'' (1971).

Both had intriguing casts. ''Habeas'' included June Havoc, Celeste Holm, Jean Marsh, Rachel Roberts and Paxton Whitehead.

''Soon,'' which closed after 3 shows, was a musical with Peter Allen, Barry Bostwick, Nell Carter, Marta Heflin and Vicki Sue Robinson.

Now 68, Gere isn't likely to return to doing 8 shows a week again, but how about ''Love Letters'' with Julia Roberts as a benefit?
