Sondheim was critical of the A.R.T. production of Porgy and Bess before anyone saw it. It opened Aug. 17. Sondheim's letter was published Aug. 9. There was a lot of press about the rewrites.
I saw the first preview and then at the end of the run in Cambridge. MANY of the rewrites were gone. |
