Yes, exactly. Thank you. And he also criticized the renaming of the work as THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS (although that wasn't exactly new to that shockingly misguided revival) because, among other things, it didn't acknowledge DuBose Heyward, who was the author of the play upon which the opera (or musical) was based and who made a far greater contribution to the opera (or musical) than Ira Gershwin did. |
