| True, but that's where many of us live and try to raise and educate our children - within Capitalist America. I thought it asked very difficult questions about how to navigate our lives within that system when preconceived and unexamined notions about things like 'gaming the system' and 'solidarity' conflict with our dreams and ambitions. And how class seems to trump everything in the end. Sure one can take a larger perspective about the corruption of democracy by capitalist power grabs, but that's not what the play is about IMO. It's about an economically struggling single mother and her daughter facing some hard truths about their previous choices and future options and making hard decisions about where to go from here and now. |
