| I hope to God that all new people were elected. The ballot used to state if someone was an incumbent. This election the ballot did not. The incumbents know how displeased members are with how far away from it's original mission of protecting actors the current leadership has veered. Equity is now a political movement. Also as a comparatively small union it does not need to pay an executive over $400,000 per year to run it into the ground. Sending reps on romantic weekends to check on regional theaters where no problems have been reported. Pushing producers to tell them who they can cast. I.E. a black can play Thomas Jefferson but what happens when a white tries to play Dr. Martin Luther King. Anyone should be able to play anyone as long as they look the part. That's why make-up and masks were used in theater for centuries. Stay out of it Equity and stop throwing money away. There was no reason the dues had to be raised. Fire Ms. $400,000.00 plus. Get a couple of good lawyers as advisers and let Equity get back to it's basic job. |
