I saw Bette and Bernadette and agree with your observations. Just saw Bernadette a few weeks ago so I also wound up seeing Santino Fontana, who was wonderful. Creel was great (saw him with Bette) but Fontana was remarkable. Stemp is great and I was thrilled to see him.
Liked everyone else, and agree very much with your assessment of Garber vs Hyde Pierce. The one thing I'll say: both of these great actors disappeared inside Vandergelder-- I could barely recognize either one in the role. And I was very entertained by them both.
The production is still quite dazzling and surprisingly moving. I like the fact that it is presented without irony or pandering...and it's presented with exuberance and enthusiasm. It's a very, very happy experience. |

The show works best when the take on Horace lines up with the Dolly interpretation. - Delvino 08:37 am EDT 05/26/18 |
