As someone mentioned below, in the revival, Deidre Goodwin, a Black American actress, played Sheila. There was much discussion at the time as to whether she was suitable for the part at the time, but I thought she was great. Nothing in the script specifies her race.

There are, in the original script, two Hispanics (Paul and Morales), one Black (Richie) one Asian (Connie) and one Jewish man (Gregory Gardner). Alternative lines existed for a non Asian Connie ("born in North Carolina, Groundhog Day!"), Richie ("and I'm gay!") and oddly, for Judy, in the event she isn't thin and red headed, but none for Val, in case she isn't blond.
