I did the show back in the mid-80s and was directed by an original cast member. Although I'm not black at one point I was second Richie understudy, in case the black understudy couldn't go on. As I recall the alternate line is, "And I'm craaazy!!", and I was directed to circle my ears with my index fingers and make a goofy face. I used to pray I'd never go on, and I didn't, thank God. I don't know where "And I'm gay!" came from, it certainly wasn't the alternate line back in the day, and it seems redundant when there are several other gay characters on the line. |
