| I am glad you saw "Hello Dolly" with Bernadette Peters and enjoyed it so much. she is a wonderfully talented and engaging performer. I cannot nor would I try to convince you to love Bette Midler but I can say that as Dolly, she enveloped the audience with a warm and wonderful hug and that love was returned back to her onstage a hundredfold (which caused herI think to be even more engaging. I saw both Midler and Murphy in the role and I like to say that Donna Murphy became Dolly Levi in the role when she did it and Dolly Levi became Bette Midler when she performed the role. It was two different approaches to acting, both valid and both rewarding to audiences. We were lucky to have them. I look forward to seeing Peters in the role before she leaves and I think she will be equally wonderful It is an amazing revival and I think worth the three visits. |
