"I used to pray I'd never go on, and I didn't, thank God. I don't know where "And I'm gay!" came from, it certainly wasn't the alternate line back in the day, and it seems redundant when there are several other gay characters on the line."
The "And I'm gay!" was in the revival script as an alternate line. The original line "and I'm black!" is, I believe, the only line that designates Richie as black, and really doesn't make much sense, either. I mean, really...why does that line exist? It isn't funny and it's obvious he's black. What IS the point of that line?
In the revival, James T Lane was Richie. He had 2 understudies, E Clayton Cornelious, who was Black, and Mike Cannon, who was not. Cannon never, to my knowledge, went on. |
