Rob, listening to your feelings does not mean abandoning your brain. It does not mean abandoning all logic or sense. It does no mean throwing away facts and living purely in baseless enthusiasm.

One can think with their heart while matching that feeling with clarity and reason. and one should. Otherwise, we would all be little more than blabbering idiots.

And we are not friendly enough for you to use the word "love" in my direction.

As for "Hamilton", it's a singular work of genius. Whether or not someone likes it has no bearing on its merits as a work of genius. I think that and feel that equally, and I love that show with a devout fervor. That's primarily living in my heart, but I can use my words and express equally as well through technique, craft, and storytelling skills just why that show is among the Great Musicals.

Somebody else on this thread brought up "Rent", which may or may not wind up being considered a Great Musical. I think it has a good shot, but it will depend on the show's emotional virtues outshining its weak spots. "Rent" is a show that we felt was touching Greatness when it first premiered, but we knew only time would tell if it would achieve Greatness and enter the pantheon. "Hamilton" is already in the pantheon. We are watching a Great Musical be known as Great in the moment that it is happening, which is rare. The last time that I can think of it happening was with "A Chorus Line". From that standpoint, the show cannot be overrated. That is objectively false.

Someone may not like it. Everything I've heard of "Dear Evan Hansen" has sounded treacly and semi-cruddy, but I respect the phenomenon. One can choose to study the play and discover why to people who do like it, the play is successful. Or one can yell "J'Accuse!" and run away without fixing their typos. Having a heart or feelings has nothing to do with it.
