| I hate when people use bad things as examples of proof that something is a failure. The movie of Rent was terrible - regardless of the musical itself. It was badly directed and the cast was 10 years too old and had no appeal to a movie audience. If the movie was an excellent movie or adaptation, you could use it as an example of the world moving on from the Rent craze, but it wasn't. And let's not forget that it is still one of the longest running musicals in Broadway history, having run 12 years. Even for a finished musical that's pretty remarkable. |
