| I think the main issue is that it isn't quite realistic (or at least is notably atypical) that the kind of family she describes being from, which from what I recall was an upper middle class family from Colorado Springs, would have been black... in the 50s. Isn't she 30 in the show, which theoretically takes place in 1975 right? So she was born in 1945. I don't think it's unfair to say that between 1945 and 1965 it would have been unlikely for her family to be black and also be what the play describes. But maybe I'm misremembering the text. Either way I thought Goodwin was excellent overall though I do remember feeling like she was hitting the notes a little too hard acting-wise. |
