At least as a piece of writing, it actually is worthy of the attention it has received, both as a piece of craft and for how it tapped into the larger popular culture. And I say that while being in agreement with you that many hyped shows are lackluster; I found "Book of Mormon" pleasurable but not staggeringly amazing.
