I was late to seeing RENT because of all the hype....I saw the last performance of the first national tour in Boston (where it played for what seemed to be forever). I was glad that I saw it....and could see the merits of the show.
BUT....I always wondered if the show would have been as big a hit/phenomenon if Jonathan Larson had not died on opening night of the off broadway production? Was the work worthy of the praise or was it the overwhelming tragedy combined with a good show that pushed it in that direction? |
