| A friend and I are planning to see School of Rock in July. I'm not a fan of telecharge "handling fees." I think they're too high and criminal. So, I went to NYC, went to the Winter Garden and purchased two tickets without fees. I was happy! I know that fees pay telecharge operating costs (I think), but approx $15 per ticket is just crazy, I think. Not wanting to waste my time in the city, I had previous bought a ticket for Hello Dolly because TodayTix had a "No Fees" promotion through the duration of Bernadette Peters' run. She was terrific! Not a typical Dolly for sure, but her vocals were great and her presence is still beaming and the stage glows. I've seen Bette and Donna and now Bernadette. Vocally, Donna was probably the strongest and best suited for the part. Bette glittered on stage, but I saw a Bette Midler show not "Hello Dolly." Donna and Bernie became the character. Even tho, with Bernadette, I saw flavors of Mama Rose and Sally emerging! I had a great time and I recommend people catch Bernadette as Dolly. It's not to be missed! On a whim, I entered the lottery for "Once On This Island." The box office lady said that there was a "generous" number of tickets available. I was the third name called. i've never won before, so imagine my surprise!! I even sat in the second row next to the pool. The show is AWESOME! I'm a pianist and I've played the show before. This is an inventive production and lots of fun to watch. The treat for me was Lea Salonga. She still has the voice and her "The Human Heart" was awesome and gorgeous! Glad I got to see her do it before she leaves next month. The show is minimalistic, but I can only imagine how difficult it is, technically. I'm still rooting for My Fair Lady to get Best Revival. I'm not familiar with the original story... This may seem obvious to some, but I don't know the show all that well either.... what's the deal with TiMoune becoming a tree at the end? I think I missed something... Anyone? |

| I am not lucky with lotteries but would love to return to Once on This Island if I could sit in the 200 sections. | |

| When Ti Moune is found as a child, she had been saved from the hurricane by a tree, so the tree has symbolic weight in the story as something that provides protection. Additionally, the story is based on The Little Mermaid, and if you recall the original version of that story, the mermaid becomes sea foam at the end. The tree feels like an appropriate translation of that moment for the setting of OOTI. |

| "And the Gods began to cry- tears of compassion for the orphan Ti Moune, who proved that love could withstand the storm, and cross the earth, and survive, even in the face of death. Erzulie took her by the hand And led her to the sea. Where Agwe wrapped her in a wave And laid her to her rest. And Papa Ge was gentle As he carried her to shore. And Asaka accepted her And held her to her breast. Held her to her breast... Oh... Ti Moune And then, the gods blessed her, and transformed her into... A tree! A tree that spring up and cracked the walls of the Hotel Beauxhomme, so that its gates could never close again. A tree that lived forever, sheltering peasants and grand hommes alike. A tree that watched over Daniel..." I think the point that love is stronger than death is being made. |

| ...Ti Moune's reincarnation as a tree means her sacrifice is not in vain: by cracking the walls of the Hotel Beauxhomme and preventing its gate from closing, she essentially ends the segregation on her island (that was, at least in part, responsible for keeping her from Daniel). | |

| And, in Greek mythology, the loving older couple, Baucis and Philemon, who show hospitality to the gods, are turned into trees, whose branches interweave for eternity. A happier ending than that of OOTI, it seems to me. | |

| Have they added back "come down from that Tree" to the Score? That's the only song that I really liked. | |
