| A friend and I are planning to see School of Rock in July. I'm not a fan of telecharge "handling fees." I think they're too high and criminal. So, I went to NYC, went to the Winter Garden and purchased two tickets without fees. I was happy! I know that fees pay telecharge operating costs (I think), but approx $15 per ticket is just crazy, I think. Not wanting to waste my time in the city, I had previous bought a ticket for Hello Dolly because TodayTix had a "No Fees" promotion through the duration of Bernadette Peters' run. She was terrific! Not a typical Dolly for sure, but her vocals were great and her presence is still beaming and the stage glows. I've seen Bette and Donna and now Bernadette. Vocally, Donna was probably the strongest and best suited for the part. Bette glittered on stage, but I saw a Bette Midler show not "Hello Dolly." Donna and Bernie became the character. Even tho, with Bernadette, I saw flavors of Mama Rose and Sally emerging! I had a great time and I recommend people catch Bernadette as Dolly. It's not to be missed! On a whim, I entered the lottery for "Once On This Island." The box office lady said that there was a "generous" number of tickets available. I was the third name called. i've never won before, so imagine my surprise!! I even sat in the second row next to the pool. The show is AWESOME! I'm a pianist and I've played the show before. This is an inventive production and lots of fun to watch. The treat for me was Lea Salonga. She still has the voice and her "The Human Heart" was awesome and gorgeous! Glad I got to see her do it before she leaves next month. The show is minimalistic, but I can only imagine how difficult it is, technically. I'm still rooting for My Fair Lady to get Best Revival. I'm not familiar with the original story... This may seem obvious to some, but I don't know the show all that well either.... what's the deal with TiMoune becoming a tree at the end? I think I missed something... Anyone? |
