"And the Gods began to cry- tears of compassion for the orphan Ti Moune, who proved that love could withstand the storm, and
cross the earth, and survive, even in the face of death.

Erzulie took her by the hand
And led her to the sea.
Where Agwe wrapped her in a wave
And laid her to her rest.
And Papa Ge was gentle
As he carried her to shore.
And Asaka accepted her
And held her to her breast.
Held her to her breast...
Oh...
Ti Moune
And then, the gods blessed her, and transformed her into...
A tree!
A tree that spring up and cracked the walls of the Hotel Beauxhomme, so that its gates could never close again.
A tree that lived forever, sheltering peasants and grand hommes alike.
A tree that watched over Daniel..."

I think the point that love is stronger than death is being made.

...Ti Moune's reincarnation as a tree means her sacrifice is not in vain: by cracking the walls of the Hotel Beauxhomme and preventing its gate from closing, she essentially ends the segregation on her island (that was, at least in part, responsible for keeping her from Daniel).

And, in Greek mythology, the loving older couple, Baucis and Philemon, who show hospitality to the gods, are turned into trees, whose branches interweave for eternity. A happier ending than that of OOTI, it seems to me.

Have they added back "come down from that Tree" to the Score? That's the only song that I really liked.
