I agree that Rent would have gone through much needed changes had Larson lived. I do think Rent is very good, but it is definitely unfinished, and therefore not worthy of comparison to the genius of the very polished and finished Hamilton. Many of the lyrics in Rent are clunky, for starters. And I am absolutely convinced that, had Larson lived, Mimi would have died as she does in the source material. I don't think he would have let that ridiculous "near death experience" ending stand once he saw it in previews. |
