| Saw Mean Girls and Summer/Donna Summer last week. Mean Girls is mediocre at best... Movie is much better. Mean Girls was much ado about nothing with no emotional moments, with one okay number (Grey Henson). About as good as an average SNL skit. SAVE YOU MONEY!! I know it is up for several Tony Awards....and may win a few. But this is because the past season was slim pickings as far as musicals go. Mean Girls is on par with Groundhog Day. Most past years, it might have gotten a few nominations and would be lucky to win one Tony! Tina Fey is selling it....sure is nice when Capitalism is around to work for you but don't want it to works for others (LMM in the same boat). This was a real let down and kind of pathetic. Summer/Donna Summer was definitely better, with great music (of course) and an interesting way of capturing her journey and struggles. I can't say it was one of the best musicals I have seen.....but is far better than Mean Girls. The audience goes crazy and are literally dancing in the aisles. What are the top 3 musicals and top 3 plays to look out for in 2018-19? |

| Tina Fey is selling it Fey has been hitting the talk show circuit to promote Mean Girls on Broadway -- her efforts seem to be paying off. sure is nice when Capitalism is around to work for you but don't want it to works (sic) for others (LMM in the same boat) The OP is referring to the fact that both Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tina Fey are benefiting from capitalism by having hit shows on Boadway and yet they go on SNL and criticize Trump. Manuel hosted SNL in Oct., 2016 and called Trump "a piece of shit" and Fey recently parodied "What I Did for Love" on SNL as "What I Did for Trump". I don't get the OP's implication that Fey and Manuel don't want others to benefit from capitalism. |

| I don't know about the top 3 musicals and the top 3 plays...... But.. .IF they "cross the pond" this season : "TINA" starring Adrienne Warren as Tina Turner is a truly wonderful musical in every way.. Especially the remarkable Ms. Warren, giving a performance of legendary proportions . And " THE INHERITANCE " which might be the best new play and production in the last 20 ( or more) years and, in my opinion, possibly the best play I've ever seen. And, if they don't make it into the coming season I feel sure they'll be the must-see productions when they do arrive. Don't miss either one of them ! |
