Saw Mean Girls and Summer/Donna Summer last week. Mean Girls is mediocre at best... Movie is much better. Mean Girls was much ado about nothing with no emotional moments, with one okay number (Grey Henson). About as good as an average SNL skit. SAVE YOU MONEY!! I know it is up for several Tony Awards....and may win a few. But this is because the past season was slim pickings as far as musicals go. Mean Girls is on par with Groundhog Day. Most past years, it might have gotten a few nominations and would be lucky to win one Tony! Tina Fey is selling it....sure is nice when Capitalism is around to work for you but don't want it to works for others (LMM in the same boat). This was a real let down and kind of pathetic.
Summer/Donna Summer was definitely better, with great music (of course) and an interesting way of capturing her journey and struggles. I can't say it was one of the best musicals I have seen.....but is far better than Mean Girls. The audience goes crazy and are literally dancing in the aisles.
