Theatergoing in Dublin/ any suggestions advicei

I will be in Ireland the last week of this August, any suggestions? It's my first oversees trip, I'll be going to Kerry, Cliffs of Mahr and a non- tour group visit to my great grandparents grave up in Country Monaghan. But the last weekend in Aug, and the following 3 days I'll be in Dublin,as will be the Pope(But that's a coincidence, and I don't think I'll run into him at the theater.) I tried finding things on Wikipedia, but results were spotty, with several interesting titles ending engagements in July. Oddly enough this spring, Irish companies were staging ASSASSINS and MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG buy 'our' Mr Sondheim. So if any one has recommendations for Dublin based theater going in August(Also second hand books stores), drop[ me a line Thanks, Brian

Looks like Jimmy's Hall is on at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin (the "national theatre of Ireland").

Enjoy County Kerry and the Cliffs - and the rest of this beautiful country. I've been a number of times, and it looks like I'll visit even more regularly in the future.

The Gate is the second theatre of Dublin and produces a wide range of classics (they were the ones doing ASSASSINS, I think).

There are also a number of smaller companies, some without permanent homes, around town, especially in the Temple Bar neighbourhood.

And Druid has, of course, brought many a show stateside, including the original BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, the Atlantic Theatre revival of THE CRIPPLE OF INSIHMAAN and the vast DRUID SYNGE Festival (which I think played Lincoln Center a few years ago?). [Last time I checked they were actually on tour in America with GODOT, I think.]

.....the show that God designed.

I can't imagine any play taking my breath away like The Cliffs of Moher did. Or the scenic wonder of the Beara, Dingle and Kerry peninsulas. Or the barren moonscape of The Burren.

And it may not fit with your trip, but the Arran Islands off Galways (especially Inishmaan) are beautiful and bleak and when I was there, empty.

Funnily, I had to content myself with two American classics in Dublin: ALL MY SONS at the Abbey (with two American actors in the leads) and ECCENTRICITIES OF A NIGHTINGALE at the Gate (with Lia Williams, who was terrific).
