| I’m speaking of musicals that GOT recorded and are commercially available (so, “James Joyce’s ‘The Dead’ doesn’t count!), but omitted material you love. So much material from the original Broadway production of Side Show didn’t make it on to the cast recording, and I love a lot of it. Some of it was recorded with the revival cast in slightly revised formats—for example, the interview before “Who Will Love Me As I Am?”—but I long for an official recording of Emily Skinner, Alice Ripley, Jeff McCarthy, and Hugh Panaro singing that music. I miss McCarthy’s “You Deserve a Better Life.” Without “Crazy, Deaf, and Blind,” the album doesn’t really convey how genuinely frightening Ken Jennings was. I also miss the recit before “Like Everyone Else” that would morph into “All in the Mind” in the revival. But what I most long for is the full version of “We Share Everything.” With the cut verses (“Ain’t it amazin’/even our phrasin’/sounds like it’s coming from one!/Nobody’s sweatin’/when we’re duetin’/‘cause we’re having such fun!”), we not only lose some of Russell’s wittiest and most charming lyrics, but a veritable MASTER CLASS in pastiche performance styles from Skinner and Ripley. In the section preceding “C’mon boys, build a barge...”, we also got some of the most thrilling belting from the ladies—in a musical chock full of thrilling belting—when they sang their “Ay, ay, ay, ays!” (Devotees of the original production will know what I’m talking about!) And speaking of Henry Krieger musicals, the Original Cast Recording of Dreamgirls suffered a similar fate...at least until its 2006 (?) reissue. I’m very happy that we now have It’s All Over, but I sure do still wish we had Heavy. What are your missing favorites? |

| Incredible orchestrations for dance breaks in MY BODY and HOOKERS BALL, not to mention a very jazzy vamp into the opening number, all of which never made the recording. Can't think why and I think the recording suffers without them/ |

| I’ve always stayed to hear the band finish that piece, and I’ve always wanted it recorded. They included similar playout music on the tick, tick...BOOM! recording which I also loved. | |

| The toe cutting sequence from ItW. We finally got it on the movie soundtrack. And about a third of Follies, including most of the overture.. (Again, we now have most of this from the revival). |

| Maybe my favorite musical part of the entire show, and the triumph that it needs and the culmination of the beautiful John/Abigail correspondence throughout the show ... and it wasn't recorded for the OBC, not sure why. | |

| I miss a lot of the dance breaks or the like from bigger numbers. Off the top of my head: the original arrangement of the dance music in "A Fact Can Be a Beautiful Thing" in Promises, Promises. A little obscure, but it was syncopated and just delightfully catchy. I was so disappointed in the new version used in the revival. The original Michael Bennett choreography was a wow factor there in the original, too. | |

| Ditto re CAMELOT. I remember watching the L&L ed Sullivan broadcast; She sang the reprise, also the spoken line about the autumn leaves falling into nice little piles. In concert, in Detroit in'89, Miss Andrews with full ,orchestra sang all of "Camelot". | |

| Also from Camelot's OBCR: the little poem thing that Lancelot sings before If Ever I Would Leave You and also The Persuasion, the duet for Morgan Le Fay and Mordred. It's sort of spoken, but to a giddy waltz played by the orchestra that is irresistible. The Persuasion was actually in the songlist (on a pasted-in blue insert) on the original LP, but it wasn't on the disc itself. |

| The OBCR of WONDERFUL TOWN cut the overture entirely. It also cut a section from "Swing". Maybe other cuts that I don't remember. Thankfully, the 1958 television production recording has it all and is a better performance all around to boot. |

| The Murphy recording has it, but it's not the original. The Karen Mason/Rebecca Luker recording is the only version I have with it. I don't know if the revival recording has And... Also, why not record The Montage as written? "Little Brat, that's what my sister was, a little brat. And that's why I shaved her head. I'm glad I shaved her head..." |
