Yes, especially if there are cast changes. Plus someone who hasn't done the role for a while wants to make sure he/she for their own protection is remembering every line, piece of blocking, choreography so they don't mess up in performance. Is David Hyde Pierce returning or will Bette be playing opposite Victor Garber, or someone new?
Btw, I just went to see Bernadette the other night, and she was a laugh riot! I knew she could do comedy from some of her work, but she should do more based on her eating scene and her entire performance. (Maybe Madame Arcati in "High Spirits" somewhere along the road?) She was just wonderful, in rather good voice, and her chemistry with Victor Garber was great. His facial expressions during some of the scenes, especially in the Harmonia Garden scenes, showed that Bernadette's Dolly was melting his firm resistance to her. He was almost on the verge of cracking up! His Horace was being charmed by her bit by bit, so that his eventual proposal to her didn't seem so sudden at the end like many other Horaces that I've seen do the role. The whole production was just wonderful! |
