| All of this optimistic-to-delusional talk of other shows winning cracks me up. I keep reading posts and in some cases articles saying things like "Well now that Mean Girls is a hit, hasn't The Band's Visit actually moved into the dark-horse spot?" and some such. (And for the record, if by some freak occurrence The Band's Visit were to not win, it wouldn't lose the award to SpongeBob but to Mean Girls). The Band's Visit is the surest Best Musical winner of the last decade aside from Hamilton. On the awards prediction site Gold Derby, Every. Single. One. of their forecasters and prognosticators has picked it to win, and they put its odds of winning at 1/20. (Their second-place pick, Mean Girls, factors in at odds of 40-to-1.) That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Ethan Slater does pull off the Best Actor - He wouldn't be my choice (he'd be my 3rd, after Hadden-Paton and Shalhoub), but this year that feels like a category where anything could happen. |
