She was an extraordinary singer, but didn't develop much reputation as an actor.
Although I never was able to see her live, I do think I hear so much personality and acting in her voice alone. She will always be my favorite Narrator in Joseph, for instance - to me she really owns that role, and imbues it with a certain sense of playful abandon that I've never quite heard anyone else do. |
