| ...made all the wittier and more enjoyable thanks to the always sterling stewardship of host Peter Filichia. Guests were encouraged to don tropical island wear in keeping with the sandy stage at Circle in the Square. Wonderful to see Glenda Jackson, Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga and other luminaries bestow this venerable welcome to the New York theater scene to a dozen award-worthy actors. Presenter Wesley Taylor and recipient Denise Gough were comedic highlights, along with musical performances by Philip Boykin and Nicholas Barasch. And the John Willis Award went to one of my all-time favorites, Victor Garber. It was a fabulous afternoon. |

| Philip Boykin sang ‘Day-O’ and interacted with the audience as well as singing ‘Wonderful World’ and spotlighting his stage ‘daughter’ Hailey Kilgore. Nicholas Barasch sang a song from BIG RIVER—a charming, talented lad. The gratitude and ‘family’ feeling is very special. Wesley Taylor ‘roasted’ his SPONGE BOB castmate Ethan Slater, Jamie Brewer was visibly moved by the honor, Denise Gough begged to be cast in a romantic comedy. Wonderful to see Anita Gillette, Lea Salonga and Baayork Lee among the presenters. Bernadette Peters presented the John Willis award to her ‘Horace’. She is a treasure. |
