Charles Strauss just shrugged.

...at the misspelling of his last name, perhaps? ;-)

Otherwise, I'm sure Mr. Strouse is either very happy for Mr. Mee, or that they don't really relate as theatrical colleagues and it's not a big deal. But what does it matter? I'm not a fan of Mee's work, but I don't begrudge him the honor he's receiving either. Mr. Strouse has most assuredly had more recognition over the years, and some enduring classic hit songs to boot. And that's something Mr. Mee won't ever have.

So, put on a happy face, and remember that it's Richard or Johann Strauss, but it's Charles Strouse. ;-)

Nonagenarians shrug at octogenarians. Bad joke, perhaps. Mee's a pretty interesting playwright, imo.
Sorry to bungle the surname, of course.

I was involved in the workshopping of a sort of Mee musical a few years back - a sort of Mee meets Gershwin thing. Everyone was truly wonderful to work with (Mee was not directly involved, just lending his material, so I didn't get to meet him), but I confess I absolutely despised the project itself. Just not my kind of theatre, in any way. Probably not the best way to be introduced to Mee's writing, lol. But so it goes...
