The Tonys competed with the NBA Finals for many years, which certainly didn't help the ratings. But, actually, for the past two to three years,
the NBA went to a new, elongated Finals schedule, allowing three days between most games, resulting in their not being a game scheduled for Tony Sunday. As a big Cavs fan who also doesn't want to miss the Tonys live, I pay close attention to the schedules. Even if the Warriors had not swept the series, game 5 would have been tonight, not last night. The past two years the Finals went beyond Tony night but because of the new format, there was no conflict. I'm sure that change had nothing to do with the Tony conflict, but I'm glad the NBA made that change. It wasn't fun in the past trying to watch both the NBA Finals and the Tonys simultaneously on separate sets. |
