My exactly reaction. 30 seconds in I said, "Well, this will sell tickets."
The Radio City audience loves LaChanze, roots for her, pulls for everyone up there. Awards audiences want shows to work and employ people. They're happy to have every house filled. I used to argue this til I was blue in the face when someone would say, "Why can't CATS close already so the Winter Garden is free again?" It's an industry. B'way is about variety. We got "Sponge Bob" and "The Band's Visit" in the same season. It's always been thus. |
