No one was trying to blur the line or suggest that high school students could immediately show up on Broadway and get jobs, they were trying to foster the connection between theatre and young people. When I was a kid watching stodgy Tony Awards, it felt like a far off thing that I could never be part of. I loved it. Those kids are the future artists and audiences and it's amazing that they went after them and overdue as Broadway has always skewed older.
I don't want to get too off topic, but this administration has attacked the lives of gay people, women, minorities, immigrants and so on and so on. They have threatened to cut arts funding and arts programs as well. I'm sorry you are offended by DeNiro. I didn't really like it either, but I am more offended that you either refuse or cannot see how devastating this administration has been for the people who create theatre. |
