Impeaching the president is a fool's errand, because convicting him is impossible. It takes 67 votes, which can't happen in the current political environment. Trump would claim exoneration and victory, which might very well lead to another 4-year term. If that happens, we can kiss goodbye to Roe v. Wade and same-sex marriage.
The only way to defeat Trump is a massive turnout in November to allow Democrats to take control of both the House and Senate (unlikely but theoretically possible).
I wish one of our politically savvy playwrights would write a play incorporating some of these possibilities into a cohesive story. It could be a hit. |
