Also, I didn't get the feeling that the show gave the impression that any high school student is ready for Broadway. I worked in a local high school drama department for many years and never felt that the kids felt that they were ready for Broadway.

Exactly. I think that most probably if I were a "theatre kid" watching last night (and I sure did watch the Tonys when I got into theatre as a teen), I would simply feel validated that someone is honoring what I love to do. I'd feel more special that someone is noticing young performers in general, and giving scholarships, and even giving us a fun look at what some of the current stars did when they were that age. I wouldn't be expecting to get the call to audition for Broadway the next day...
