"You'll Never Walk Alone" is an inspiring anthem of facing hardship, but while it may be sparked by a dramatic moment, nothing in the song is specific to that dramatic moment.

True, though they tried to give it an overall connection by having it be the words Julie and her peers would sing in school, and that she once sewed them on a sampler that she gave to Nettie - and also by the whole community singing it at the graduation. Clearly the words of the song are meant to be specific to the ideals of this community in general, even if the images in the lyric don't literally correspond to Billy's death and Julie's specific remorse.
