I don't know anything about Newall's career beyond GLEE...does he have much experience on stage? It sounds like he may be still working on figuring out the whole 8 performance week and how to conserve his energy so that he can give basically the same performance for every audience. If his background is in film and television, he may not have had any concept of what it takes to sustain a performance over the long haul. That's not a criticism, by the way, just an acknowledgement of the difference between film/television and theatre.
If his performance has deteriorated because he's bored or can't figure out how to play 8 performances a week at the same level, then that's a discussion between him and the producers. |
