I found it disturbing on several levels. First of all, I hated that “Tony dreaming” business of showing HS photos of all the presenters. Then, the students’ performance topped most of the other musical performances on the show. Then they give a Tony to a teacher and announce high school scholarships for musical theatre. They blurred the line between high school and Broadway. It gives the impression that any high school student is ready for Broadway given the opportunity.

Are you serious?! Disagree. I just loved the HS photos! The Parkland perf was a very special song guaranteed to be a home run for most any performer. And the circumstances engendered a lot of good will towards them to boot. Finally, nobody is SO naive and disingenuous to get the impression that any student is Broadway ready after some HS training! Come back to earth, please! |
