I saw him play that role in San Diego (as memory serves, it was a mini-tour that played Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Diego) and agree that he was spectacular. Since then I've had the occasion to meet both Frugé and Clarke Thorell (who played Homer) and they both lit up when I mentioned that production.
