| I've had ZERO DESIRE to see THE BAND'S VISIT, despite reading pretty much all the reviews. But I have to agree with you, Distant Drumming. "Omar Sharif" worked incredibly well on television, with two actors who know how to handle a close-up. Katrina Lenk was making choices right and left that -- upon second viewing -- I only later realized weren't in the text at all. Her subtext was speaking volumes. I mean, wow. (Go, Northwestern University. Seriously. And wherever else she's gotten training.) I'd like to see it now. I'm not sure how much I'd pay, but when the moment's right, I'll go. On the other hand, I have to admit how let down I was by the song for MEAN GIRLS. I've been avoiding listening to the score until i have the chance to see it in the city; I guess I wanted to be surprised by some novelty and jokes in the theater. But the writing in this song was soooooo effing on the nose, even admittedly so, and I found it hard to forgive songwriting this lazy. What makes Regina George so powerful is that she doesn't need to describe herself as "a very big deal." That's why Tina Fey's screenplay so brilliantly handed a montage to the other school students to do the talking FOR her. I would have rather seen her hair commercial. IN JAPAN. - GMB |
